Roles and Responsibilities of the Technology Team

  • Collaboratively plans with the Technology Team and other key people at the local school

  • Collaborates with the learning community to plan, implement, and continually refine an effective, student-centered technology plan to support the QCC

  • Promotes technology efforts throughout the system and the local school

  • Coordinates as a team the purchasing, installation and access of innovative technology at the local school

  • Insures equitable access and full utilization of technology

  • Disseminates knowledge, information and skills to students, staff administration and community

  • Expands current knowledge through professional development, conferences, workshops, publications and networking of colleagues

  • Serves on local school technology committees to help develop short term and long-range technology plans

  • Coordinates efforts with the central office technology department to ensure standard system wide operations

  • Communicates with school personnel to facilitate implementation of the instructional technology initiative and related school instructional goals

  • Receives direct supervision from the principal or his/her appointed administrator

SPECIALIST  (ITS)

 

MEDIA SPECIALIST

(MS)

The TST’s responsibilities are divided into 4 categories: (1) orientation to service and support; (2) microcomputer repair; (3) network management; and (4) desktop software support.  The following bullets provide further clarification:

The ITS’s responsibilities are divided into 3 categories: (1) application software support; (2) technology staff development; and (3) integrate the use of technology into the curriculum.  The following bullets provide further clarification:

The MS’s responsibilities are divided into 3 categories: (1) support and leadership of authentic learning; (2) information literacy; and (3) AKS mastery.  These are accomplished through the use of a variety of resources and technology.  The following bullets provide further clarification:

 

Ø      Supports networking technology, software, media center networks, video technology and audiovisual repairs

Ø      Surveys faculty and staff to evaluate technological needs of the school

 

Ø      Teaches the process of evaluating information

Ø     

Ø      Provides basic technology repair

Ø      Plans cooperatively with teachers to enhance instruction and to empower students with technology

Ø      Leads the use of technology as a tool for information retrieval

Ø      Installs software onto network server

Ø      Facilitates the use of technology as a tool in the process of instruction

TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT TECHNICIAN (TST)

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (ITS)

MEDIA SPECIALIST

(MS)

Ø      Provides technical support for school technology staff development program

Ø      Collaborates with teachers to design student experiences that focus on authentic learning, information literacy, and curricular mastery

Ø      Collaborates with teachers to design student experiences that focus on authentic learning, information literacy, and curricular mastery

Ø      Retrieves data to enable decision makers to plan for technology support of education

Ø      Previews appropriate software and recommends purchases to the local school technology committee

Ø      Strengthens the connection between students and information resources beyond the school

Ø      Evaluates and recommends purchases of hardware, peripherals and instructional management, and communication systems

Ø      Evaluates and recommends purchases of hardware, peripherals and instructional management, and communication systems

Ø      Analyzes, chooses and uses the appropriate technology to support the process and application of information literacy

Ø      Generate backup for data stored on server

Ø      Facilitates faculty training and provides staff development in instructional technology and professional productivity

Ø      Provides online access and a variety of technological opportunities for learners to explore the world and its resources

Ø      Installs hardware where necessary

Ø      Promotes the use of technology as a tool for continuous learning

Ø      Promotes the use of technology as a tool for continuous learn

Ø      Integrates networking systems to provide maximum, secure access to information

Ø      Provides demonstrations of cutting edge educational applications

Ø      Facilitates faculty training and provides staff development in instructional technology and professional productivity

Ø      Performs daily general tasks such as maintenance, backups, report generation

Ø      Acts as a backup for the TST with technical support to insure efficient system operations

Ø      Involves school media/curriculum committee(s) in selection and evaluation of media materials and equipment including technology

Ø      Maintains school inventory of hardware

 

 

Ø      Prepares technical specifications for selection of technology hardware and software

Ø      Demonstrates knowledge of various hardware and software applications available for use in classroom instruction and administrative operations

Ø      Provides leadership for the integration of video technology into the curriculum

Ø      Manages LAN/WAN connections

Ø      Demonstrates knowledge of instructional strategies that integrates QCC with educational technology standards

Ø      Assists teachers in planning activities and assignments based on user needs and available resources

Ø      Supports system wide technology initiatives

Ø      Facilitates the implementation of technology standards at elementary, middle and high school students and teachers

Ø      Organizes media resources and arranges media facilities for optimum accessibility

Ø      Makes recommendations for technology locally and system wide

Ø      Complete survey documents to evaluate the technological needs of the school

Ø      Works with teachers to integrate media skills instruction with classroom content

Ø      Supports administrative software and use of technology

Ø      Collects data to make decisions about technology impact on teaching and learning

Ø      Assists students and staff in use of equipment and production of materials as needed

Ø      Functions as technical support for instructional hardware and software

Ø      Evaluates the effectiveness of technology in classroom instruction
