Library Day at the Capitol
is an important event. Not only does it give us a chance
to be proactive in gaining support for staffing and funding
for our library media centers but also it gives us a chance
to see the legislature in action. As Past-President of GLMA
I have attended this event for the past three years and
have every intention of continuing to attend in the future.
Efforts to trim the cost of the event this year led to sandwiches
and soft drinks in one of the rooms at the Capitol rather
than the typical lunch buffet at the Railroad Depot. Having
lunch in the Capitol Dome gave more time to talk with legislators,
which is the point of the day.
The event is co-sponsored by the Georgia Library Association,
Georgia Library Media Association, and the Georgia Association
for Instructional Technology. Many other library associations
throughout the state also participate. The event featured
visual displays from various library organizations. Governor
Sonny Perdue cut the ribbon to unveil the New Georgia Encyclopedia,
a part of GALILEO. Our Library Day was also designated as
"Georgia History Day" making it an event to be
remembered. |
