Summer Leadership Institute for Media Specialists

The Summer Leadership Institute 2005 was a success. Attendance of Media Specialists from all over the state was over 80 participants. After reviewing the camp evaluation forms participants found the presentation by Dianna Denton on Georgia Performance Standards and the Library Media Specialist most helpful and informative.

The next Summer Leadership Institute for Media Specialist will be held again in Macon, this site is centrally located for everyone in Georgia. The tentative date has been set for June 12-14, 2006. The tentative location and is subject to change will be the Holiday Inn Convention Center. The meeting times are tentatively set at Monday and Tuesday from 9 to 4 and on Wednesday from 10 to 3. If you would like to receive the two Professional Learning Units offered attendees must attend all sessions.

The focus this summer will be totally informational and not a work session. So many comments were made in the summer ’05 evaluations favoring a focus on information and learning. This new focus will compliment the learning of media specialists and in return they can share the information in their school districts.

There is a weekend in February that is being planned as a working weekend for Media Specialists being planned by Donna Milner, the 2006 Georgia Library Media Association’s president. This working weekend will be a chance to work on the Department of Education Media Specialist Handbook, and other areas that need to be addressed. Information about this weekend will be forth coming.
