District 6 members met Saturday, March 29, at the Watson-Brown Foundation for their spring meeting. During this meeting, district goals were set and many media-related issues discussed. Goals include: increase our membership by 50 percent by the fall meeting; have at least four schools participate in the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl during the 03-04 school year; name a “Media Specialist of the Year” from District 6 to participate in the state-level competition; and create an information hotline for District 6 by the end of April.
Gordon Baker and Pam Nutt shared a presentation titled “The Past, Present, and Future of Media Specialists.” The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 25, at 4 p.m. at Riverside Elementary in Columbia County. At this time, there will be a presentation by Barbara Hallstrom about the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl. District 6 members are also proud to announce that Toni Fishburne, Greenbrier Elementary media specialist, has been named Media Specialist of the Year for the district. Congratulations, Toni!
