Tips and Tricks

To Insert A Checkmark (Word)

  1. Position the cursor where you want to place the checkmark
  2. On the menu bar, click on Insert Symbol
  3. Under the Symbols tab, change the font to Wingdings
  4. Horizontal scroll to the bottom row
  5. Click on the checkmark
  6. Click the Insert button
  7. Click the Close button
  8. The checkmark will appear in your document

One Slide PowerPoint

  1. Create interest in different topics by creating a 1 slide PowerPoint presentation then “loop” it so it plays continuously.
  2. Topics: New Books, Georgia Book Award Winners, Media Center News, Repetitive Tasks (e.g. self check-out)
  3. Open PowerPoint
  4. Create slide
  5. On menu bar, click on Slide Show > Set up Show
  6. Under Show Options section, place a checkmark before Loop continuously until ‘ESC’
  7. Click OK button
  8. Run show (F5 button)
  9. Show will run continuously

To Copy Formatting

  1. Do one of the following:
    Select the text whose formatting you want to copy
  2. On the Standard toolbar, click Format Painter.
  3. Select the text you want to apply the formatting to.
    The text takes on the new formatting.

    If you want to apply the same formatting to more than one item, select the formatting you want, double-click Format Painter, and then select each word, phrase, or paragraph you want to apply formatting to. When you're finished, press ESC.

Add a Text Box to an Autoshape

  1. Select the AutoShape or text box.
  2. To add text for the first time, right-click any shape — except a line or freeform — click Add Text on the pop-up menu and then type the text.

To Set Home Page

  1. Open the Internet
  2. Navigate to the web page you want as your home page
  3. Click the blue “E” in the address line
  4. LEFT click and drag the blue “E” to the home icon on the Standard toolbar
  5. You will be asked a question
  6. Click the YES button
  7. Your home page will now be reset to this web address


Print Multiple Pages o n 1 Page


To better see the layout of a multiple-page document, you can print multiple pages on one sheet of paper. To do this, Microsoft Word shrinks the pages to the appropriate sizes and groups them on the sheet.

  1. On the File menu, click Print.
  2. Under Zoom, click the option you want in the Pages per sheet box.
    For example, to print a four-page document on one sheet, click 4 pages.


Create Shortcut from Program List

  1. Click on Start > Programs
  2. Highlight program you want (e.g. Word)
  3. Hold down the CTRL key and LEFT click the mouse
  4. Drag the program to the desktop
  5. You can leave the shortcut on the desktop or LEFT click the icon and drag to the Quick Launch (to the right of the Start button).
    The shortcut will appear on both the taskbar and the desktop.

Print Multiple Documents Without Opening Each One

Print several documents at once

  1. Click Open on the Standard toolbar.
  2. Open the folder that contains the documents you want to print.
  3. Select the documents you want to print.
  4. Click Tools, and then click Print.
