Stephens becomes 2003 Georgia Library Media Specialist of the YearBy Cawood Cornelius
Julie Stephens, Calhoun Elementary School, has been named the
2003 Georgia Library Media Specialist of the year. The Georgia
Library Media Specialist of the Year is jointly sponsored by the
Georgia Library Media Association and the Georgia Association
of Instructional Technology and is announced at the annual Georgia
Council of Media Organizations conference.
Julie has been a teacher for 25 years, seven ye ars as a library
media specialist. Julie is Nationally Board Certified and the
Georgia State Department of Education has recognized her library
media program as the 2003 Exemplary Elementary Media Program.
She is also the 2003 Teacher of the year for the Calhoun City
Schools.
Julie serves as the vice-chair of the Calhoun/Gordon County Public
Library board of directors as well as serving on the local literacy
council. She is also serving on the selection committee for the
2004 Georgia Book Awards, and she reviews books for Linworth Publishing
Company.
Julie has been married to Austin Stephens for 22 years and has
two children: Brandon, a college freshman, and Addie, who is a
high school junior.
Julie will represent Georgia at the national competition sponsored
by the Association of Educational Communications and Technology.
The national winners will be announced at the AECT convention
during the 2004 summer.
Julie said about the 2003 Library Media Specialist of the year
award, "I am very honored to represent our profession for
the state of Georgia. I can think of no other job that is as challenging
and rewarding as being a media specialist."
