During National Children's Book Week this year, I used the book Alice in Wonderland as the focus of the week. While re-reading this great classic, I discovered many things that Alice may have learned during her adventures. Amy Pridgen
- Beware of falling down rabbit holes. You never know where following a rabbit will take you.
- If you cry too much, you will drown in you own tears eventually. Cheer up and look for a “Eat Me” cake or “Drink Me” bottle. They usually do the trick!
- Every day but one is an unbirthday and simply MUST be celebrated.
- Nothing makes much sense when you are asleep. Enjoy it anyway.
- Sudden changes can bring stress into your life.
- If I know who I am, things in my life would make more sense.
- You must first know where you are going before figuring out how to get there.
- If you are serious about life, you’ll soon realize everything is a game to everyone else (ex. cards, croquet, chess). You will also realize that you are playing the game, too, though you might not know it at the time.
- Some people believe they hold all the power (Queen of Hearts), but in reality they just enjoy hearing themselves give orders. (Off with their heads!) When you realize this, you will find your own power inside and topple their “house of cards.”
- Undoubtedly, there are folks who are ALWAYS running late. (White Rabbit)
- Never let ANYONE discriminate against you based on your height. Tall, short, it doesn’t matter. Remember that height is completely relative.
- Wisdom can be found in the most unexpected places and from the most unlikely sources. (Caterpillar and Cheshire Cat)
- Some races are pointless and never-ending (Caucus Race – Especially if a Dodo Bird is in charge). Never join in and you won’t get run over, beaten or have to leave gracefully.
- A friendly smile can sometimes lead to trouble (Cheshire Cat!?)
- Life is but a dream. Make yours a good one. Keep the nightmares at bay with humor, frequent celebrations and exciting adventures.
P.S. Want a REAL LIFE adventure? Go looking for a flamingo in
October somewhere in Georgia. You will never believe people’s
reactions!
