July 14, 2019

As the new school year approaches, we are planning out our book lists, maker clubs, book clubs, and more. We hope this newsletter gives some fun and helpful ideas for your planning needs.

Check out the Demco Teen Activity Calendar or the Children's Activity Calendar for some great literacy and MakerSpace ideas for August.

Ideas for celebrating in August:

  • Ranganathan's Birthday (August 12th)

  • Women's Equality Day (August 26th)

  • National Book Lovers Day (August 9th)

  • American Artist Appreciation Month

  • National Golf Month

Looking forward:

  • Holly Frilot and Martha Bongiorno will host a special edition of #GaLibChat on July 22nd at 8pm on Twitter to share ideas and generate discussion on how to advocate for your library from the beginning of the school year

  • #GaLibChat takes place on the 2nd Monday of each month: August12th, September 9th, October 14th, November 11th, December 9th, January 13th, February 10th, March 9th, April 13th, & May 11th

  • GaETC will be November 6th - 8th

  • Join GLMA at AASL November 14th - 16th

**Check out Target, Amazon Prime Day, and Walmart for teacher appreciation events happening the week of July 15th!**

World Humanitarian Day

August 19th

Create a bulletin board and book display in honor of those working in humanitarian efforts around the globe. Find out more here.

Sharon Draper's Birthday

August 21st

Did you know that this bestselling author of Out of My Mind, Stella by Starlight, and Blended also provides study questions for book clubs via her website? Create a display or host a book club to share her amazing stories with your students and staff.

Pepsi was Branded

August 28th

On this day in 1898, PepsiCola was branded. Host your own soda tastetest program, a great way to learn about the experimental process. Use AdobeSpark or Canva to have students design a new label for Pepsi or Coke or use the green screen to make an advertisement for their favorite soda flavor.
