GLMA + AASL = Better Together

As we kick off the 2020/2021 school year, we would like to take this opportunity to introduce the GLMA Chapter Delegates for the American Association of School Librarians (AASL). Lori Quintana is a library media specialist at Griffin Middle School in Smyrna, GA, for the Cobb County School District and also serves as a communications co-chair for GLMA. Angie Hawkesworth is the library media specialist at Central Elementary School for the Carroll County Schools in Carrollton, GA. She recently transitioned to the library media center after teaching 18 years in the classroom. Both Lori and Angie are excited about the opportunity to serve as the AASL affiliates for the GLMA.

Our delegates recently attended the virtual AASL Chapter Assembly Meeting with AASL President Mary Keeling on June 15 & 16, 2020. The main topics of discussion were Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, Organizational Leadership, and Concerns, & Commendations

For a full recap and resources from the June meetings, please check out our AASL Affiliate News. Future AASL information will be shared here on the GLMA website as our delegates represent GLMA at future AASL Affiliate meetings.

Would you like to become a member of our AASL national organization? You can do so via the AASL website. http://www.ala.org/aasl/.

"Librarians recognize the power of language to teach all children about themselves, their peers, and people in the world. Mindful use of language communicates to students positive and important messages about belonging and humanity." -Rebecca J. Morris
